Excellent Quote

If it were possible to raise children to perfection, then God would have sent a parenting method, not Jesus. . . .

A favorite quote of mine is, “If it were possible to get from the US to Europe in mere hours, then God would have sent us a Concorde.” Like the airplanes, and parenting method is nothing more than a vehicle to get from one point to another. Some people like them, and some people don’t…like airplanes that is.

Honestly I think you missed the point of the quote. We aren’t perfect and it’s not possible that we CAN be perfect. We can’t possibly raise perfect children - and that’s why we have Jesus.

I’m not sure my comment went through.

    I love Hank’s quote.

The wry humor in Hank’s quote comes from the reader’s position of knowing that the situation posed as “if it were possible…” actually IS possible.

And of course, the situation posed in my “if it were possible” statement in the original quote is something we know is NOT possible. There is no airplane we can board to get to that particular destination.

I was not making a pronouncement against parenting methods as such. I was pointing out that there is a limit to what any parenting method can accomplish.

    Mamagriz/Kathy,

I didn’t miss the point at all. I was just trying to add a little humor into the mix. I would hope that anyone who knows me at all knows that I have no illusions of reaching any point of perfection in parenting or anything else in life for that matter. Although, I do make a mean batch of popcorn. ;-)

Seriously…I think if it were possible to raise children to perfection then God would take care of it Himself rather than letting parents come in and muddy up the process.

There IS one goal/destination that I do hope to “arrive” at in parenting. That is to provide enough of an example to go along with a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ so that I will be a part of seeing all of my children accept His gift of salvation.

    Krysten,

Was there something I said here that led to your comment?
