Thanks to Jennifer at The Lactivist, I found this great video on the flu vaccine. It’s a great parody on vaccines. And let me just first say that we DO vaccinate in our household but we selectively vax, we delay some, and we do NOT do the flu shot.
A Georgia congressman has launched a financial incentive plan that would discourage states from requiring parents to have their underage daughters vaccinated for a sexually transmitted disease, a concept that currently is under review in nearly two-thirds of the United States.
I’m going to be writing about this a lot more - I have a REAL issue with the government mandating that I vaccinate my daughter against a sexually transmitted disease. I applaud Merck for developing the vaccine but I’m aggravated to say the least that they are launching a national campaign to force the vaccine on our children at a cost of $400 for the 3 injections.
The new vaccine, Rotateq, does not seem to increase a risk for intussusception (despite the fear-mongering headline at Fox News): even though a small number of vaccinated kids have had this happen, so far the number of cases is no higher than the number of naturally-occuring intussusception:
WASHINGTON - The government warned on Tuesday of potentially life-threatening twisting of the intestines in infants vaccinated against a virus that is the leading cause of early childhood diarrhea. The condition, called intussusception, is the same that led to the withdrawal of the first rotavirus vaccine eight years ago.
“There is no medical emergency in the state of Texas over cervical cancer. The emergency is in the board room of Merck because they’ve seen this [HPV vaccine mandate] measure fail in three states and they want to make sure this thing doesn’t go down the tubes…….The product was only tested in 1200 little girls under the age of 16. That is not nearly enough information to base a policy that is going to affect hundreds of thousands of girls in the United States, perhaps possibly even millions…This is a very, very expensive vaccine. The amount of money it is going to take to vaccinate every single little girls at the age of 11 and do that every year - we don’t know because the vaccine hasn’t been followed up long enough to know that this is actually going to have an impact when these little girls are old enough to develop cervical cancer….” - Dawn Richardson, The Today Show, Feb. 5, 2007
I follow Barbara Loe Fishers Vaccine Awakening blog and saw the quote above out there today. Parents would be very wise to read more BEFORE they give their daughters the HPV Vaccine.
Negative side effects of Gardasil, a new Merck vaccine to prevent the sexually transmitted virus that causes cervical cancer, are being reported in the District of Columbia and 20 states, including Virginia. The reactions range from loss of consciousness to seizures.
